This great tip I learnt from David Meerman Scott’s book ‘ The New Rules of Marketing &PR’.
Being able to react immediately -within minutes and not days and months can pay huge dividends. Most companies are stuck in the mentality where it can take days, weeks or months to get any marketing and PR done. By the time something is approved, creative developed and then signed off can be a long time – too long to capitalise on opportunities.
But what David makes clear in his book, by changing your mind set and reacting in real time you can beat your competitors to new sales and business. In chapter 10 he gives examples where smart thinkers have been able to react to breaking news in their industry and using on-line PR and blogs to position themselves as part of the breaking news story -and so to obtain free exposure, back-links (good for SEO) to the website and be seen as industry experts. The net effect that new business is generated.
Simple, effective and virtually free. It just requires getting in a new mindset.
